A brief prayer is offered that you can add to your daily prayers this week. The scripture is from our Sunday Service Bulletin for today.
Scripture Reading- John 1: 47-51 [ESV]
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
Devotion: God’s Plan II
Last week we talked about God’s plan for us all and how God’s will for us is so much better than we could ever come up with. Today’s next has Nathanael immediately realizing that Jesus is the promised Messiah, likely by Jesus’ seemingly supernatural demonstration of having seen Nathanael before without even being present. We believe that God knows all including the future and in Verse 51 he opens up a vision for Nathanael which likely refers to Christians being able to communicate with God. Thinking about the church as it matured for the next 2000 years, what kept it alive was the accounts of the Old and New Testaments and the ability to keep communicating with God. As we look over the years, the scenery in the church and the services were constantly changing. There is one thing that did not change and that is the message of the Gospel. God’s saving grace is offered for all who believe and accept, a message 2000 years old and the news is as good now as it has ever been. I pray that you will have an opportunity to invite someone to church this week who may not know [but who desperately needs to hear] about this good news.
We pray: “Lord, I pray Your will be done in my life. Amen”
Blessings
