A brief prayer is offered that you can add to your daily prayers this week. The scripture is from our Sunday Service Bulletin for today. We continue a multi-sermon series on vocation today.
Scripture Reading- Galatians 2:15-21 English Standard Version (ESV)
15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
Devotion: What do you do for a living? - Part 2.
Last week we talked about how a vocation is more about who you are than what you do. We said that God loves all vocations [if they are not illegal, immoral, or unethical] because they in some way serve our fellow man. Today’s message continues that thought -- let us concentrate on verse 16 of the text: “…. a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.” It is not our deeds or our work that “earn” us a position in His kingdom it is our faith. Whatever we do for a vocation He wants us to do well, He loves us all and offers us salvation if we just believe and have faith. Whatever you do for most vocations you will have opportunities to interact with others. That time is where you may have the chance to demonstrate your faith and be a good example. If you shine at your workplace, as the Lord wants you to do, your co-workers will be more aware of your actions and beliefs. You never know when a moment of truth will arise where you have a chance to start making a new disciple. Just be a good example and practice your faith, God will do the rest. Are we ready to go to work?
We pray: “Lord, help me recognize the opportunity to serve you. Amen”
